In July 2021, a total of 17 Jomon sites in Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, and Akita were registered as a World Cultural Heritage. The Kakinoshima site and the Ofune site, 2 of the 17 Jomon sites, are located in Hakodate.

You can tour the sites with a Jomon culture guide if you request. The Jomon Culture Center located next to the Kakinoshima site, displays items excavated from the sites. The only national treasure in Hokkaido is also displayed in this museum. Please see the special Jomon page for more details.
