Weather and Clothing
Day temperatures in September are often above 20 degrees Celsius, but it gets cold at night so please make sure to wear a jacket or a shawl over long-sleeved clothes. From October, jackets become indispensable as evening temperatures often fall under 10 degrees Celsius. In November, you’ll need gloves, a hat, and a scarf to keep warm; the night temperatures hover just a little over 0 degrees Celsius.

The Hakodate Night View in Autumn
The weather tends to be stable and the air is clear in the autumn months, so it’s a great time to enjoy the night view from the Mt. Hakodate Observatory. The city lights might even look more brilliant than in other seasons! Please be careful and wear thick clothing because temperatures are very low on the mountain summit after sunset; it’s actually just as cold as in winter!

The Hakodate Gourmet Circus, held for two days in early September at Hakodate Green Plaza, is a celebration of the harvest season. Visitors can sample an incredible variety of dishes from Hakodate and all around the world while enjoying music and stage performances.
