Hakodate Illumination is the main event of this festival. Using about 160,000 light bulbs, the trees at Hachiman-zaka, Nijukken-zaka, and Kaiko-dori, which connect the bay area to JR Hakodate Station, will be lit up to create a gorgeous atmosphere.
Hachiman-zaka offers a great view of the port, and the sidewalks will be heated, so there is no need to worry about the snow.
Historic buildings, such as the Meiji-kan, Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, and churches in the Motomachi area, will also be lit up. Visitors will be able to relish the elegant aura of the city at night.
The festival includes the Hakodate Winter Fireworks, which will be held on Saturdays in February 2024. This is a 10-minute event starting at 20:00. Fireworks will be launched from Midori-no-Shima.
Hakodate Garden of Light, an illumination event using LED parabolic aluminized reflector lights and stardust lasers, will be held at the square in front of JR Hakodate Station. From December 1 to 29, the lights will be turned on from 17:00 to 23:00.
Come and visit Hakodate in winter, when the season is filled with light.
